# Modara

East of [Thymos](/the-unintentional-calamity/towns-and-villages/thymos.md), Modara is a town built into the natural landscape of the great plains. It is said that long-ago massive creatures called the Ikari (a type of [Cinniuint](/the-unintentional-calamity/creatures/cinniuint.md)) lived in these plains carving the landscape creating the massive chasms that cut the through the ground. The Ikari are worshipped as gods who created their home. The inhabitants of Modara have built their homes on the sides of these chasms to avoid giant dust storms that blow over from the tundra surrounding Thymos as well as the torrential rain that keeps the land moist. Due to the nature of how wet the land is, fungus is plentiful. The [Umana](/the-unintentional-calamity/creatures/umana.md) of Modara have spent generations finding what fungi are safe to eat creating a wide pallet taste.

Anyone who wants to trade with Modara is usually looking for the rarest herbs or delightful food supplies. Thymos tends to be on good terms with Modara purely because of the seemingly bottomless supply of food they are willing to trade for pretty jewels in exchange.

Few animals are willing to live in such a miserable climate with so much poisonous fauna. Since the land is so plentiful, Modarans tend to be laid back. Other towns seldom try to attack the beautifully engineered town because of natural defense of living on the side of a chasm. Additionally, it appears that most soldiers have a fear of heights. Who knew?
